Tranquility, a still life painting, oil on canvas, 20 x 16 inches, completed by Elizabeth Nguyen-Espinoza in late 2017. This is part of the Butterfly Art Series. All the paintings in this art series consist of oil and watercolor paintings of butterflies in different environments and settings.
In Tranquility, the preserved butterflies are in a shadow box. One of the butterflies has a broken wing. Despite its broken nature, it is still the most beautiful thing one ever sees. In many, life is not always perfect but finding ways to balance our life in order to find peace in ourselves when there are so much turmoil, conflict, pain, anguish, and unresolved serious challenges in our lives and around the world. Finding balance and inner peace within ourselves is never easy, but having the courage to find the solutions for peace is beyond achievement.
To achieve and find inner peace and having tranquility in our life, we have to go outside of ourselves and focus on serving others in the world we live in. Using love and compassion to wither the storms in the hope that we can make the future better for our children and the generations to come. We hope that they will not make some of the terrible mistakes of our generation, which may lead to our demise.
No matter what our individual belief system may be, focusing on serving others appears to be the antidote to overcoming some of the perpetual predicament we find ourselves in. By doing these things, we may feel warmth in the cold and experience tranquility amid the tumult.
“I see the world being slowly transformed into a wilderness; I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too. I feel the suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that everything will change for the better, that this cruelty too shall end, that peace and tranquility will return once more.” Anne Frank
